Engage

Motivation is a cycle which influences behaviors. Behavior drives performance. Performance affects thoughts. Motivation relies on positive reward that provides certain expected outcomes when certain conditions are met. According to the Incentive Theory, motivation can be divided into two different theories known as intrinsic (internal or inherent) motivation and extrinsic (external) motivation.

Our system recognizes the research on motivation and how extrinsic rewards can heavily influence internal motivation. Based on this premise, the system allows educators to set up a point reward system (MathCoins). MathCoins are gained through challenge completion. Educators can utilize the Learning Challenge MathCoins as an in class reward system - exchanging MathCoins for prizes, extra privileges or extra credit.
